Ph.D. Programme


Qualifications: Master in Science Degree in any branch of Natural Sciences such as Life Sciences / Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics or applied sciences like Statistics / Computer Science / Pharmacy / Veterinary Science / M.Sc. Degree in Psychology from a recognized Institute / University . You are also eligible if you have completed a minimum of a four-year course leading to Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Engineering / Technology / Medicine from a recognized Institute / University or an equivalent degree.

Candidates appearing for the final year of the qualifying examination are also eligible to apply.

At least 60% marks or an equivalent grade or grade point average in higher secondary (10+2) examination, and at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade or grade point average in from Bachelors and onwards is required. 5% relaxation in aggregate scores in Bachelors and Masters will be applicable for candidates from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC(Non-creamy) /PH). Rounding of percentage score to next integral value is not permitted.

Number of seats: 8-10 (tentatively). The number of seats is not fixed and varies each session

Reservation of seats: As per the GoI guidelines.

In addition to the above, candidates should have qualified any of the following examinations and hold a valid fellowship offer at the time of interview:

  • Joint CSIR-UGC test for Junior Research Fellowship (CSIR/UGC JRF)

  • Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research (DST-INSPIRE)

  • DBT Junior Research Fellowship (DBT-JRF)

  • ICMR Junior Research Fellowship (ICMR-JRF)

  • Any other nationally-competitive fellowship offered by the Government of India having a valid fellowship for a period of 5 years which can be activated in March 2026

Foreign nationals seeking admission to BRIC-NBRC must fulfil all the eligibility requirements for PhD described above. In addition, they must satisfy all the conditions as per rules of Govt. of India.
